Saved By The Bell

After Laura Vandervoort’s disappointing ouster from Smallville - probably due to the fact that TV’s Supergirl rapidly developed into a more likable and proactive character than the increasingly morose Clark Kent - your humble host is happy to learn that Kristen Bell is returning to Heroes.

Elle, Ms. Bell’s psychotic yet oddly sympathetic character, was just the only good thing that happened on the faltering NBC serial last season.

(Well … aside from Sylar’s Popeye moment at the very end of an otherwise anti-climactic finale.)

Now if the series can only regain the focus of the last five or six episodes of Heroes’ inaugural storyline …

Aw, I was hoping she’d get off that sinking ship already. I think she’s on a new pilot, though, so maybe it won’t be long.

I wouldn’t mind seeing her play a spunky, young FBI agent a la Clarice Starling. It would be like getting the proposed fourth season of Veronica Mars.

As for Heroes, I think that show has to clear a pretty high bar to make up for the lousy second season.

The ONLY good thing? ONLY? One of the mopey Typhoid Twins was killed! How was that not a moment of greatness?

I don’t think Laura Vandervoort is going to make anyone forget Katherine Hepburn in the course of her career, but she clearly lapped Welling in the acting department by a country mile in all sorts of key scenes.

    Just sayin’.

As for Ms. Bell, she is one of those rare actresses who can pretty much play any sort of a lead….romantic comedy, check!
    Sci fi heroine…check!
    Action ingenue…check-a-roony!
As you say someone ought to hazard anothe TV show around her.

Lurker - You know, I found the Typhoid Twins so unappealing that killing one of them off couldn’t even make up for it.

John - Hopefully they’ll at least bring Kara back for one episode to get the poor thing out of the Phantom Zone.

    1) Bell’s returning will dull the sting of the presumed death of Ali Larter. Bell is sort of a freak on the show which is pretty cool.

    2) It would be an absolute shame if Kara remains in the mirror on Smallville.

    3) I agree season 2 of Heroes was pretty lame and probably killed all the buzz that show had going for it.

Getting her OUT of the PZ is what I am afraid of!

Pregnant with General Zod’s baby anyone??

Or how about they just snuff Kara for some cheap heat in the ratings department???

To quote Jim Carroll “I doubt none of these speculations”.

I was kinda partial to Peter Petrelli with a decent haircut and no shirt in the first couple episodes of Season 2, before the whole insipid Irish girlfriend / lost in time dreck. Nathan’s beard was nice, too, but short-lived. But overall, Elle-ectricity was the season’s true highlight. Glad she’s coming back…

Heroes is a terrible show now. It’s so derivative, it was always like a poor version of X-Men crossed with other comics elements, but at least it was interesting the first season. I don’t think it’s going to survive past a third season.

erm. . .i kind of liked the second season of heroes. yeah, it wasn’t as good as the first season, but i don’t think anyone was realistically expecting it to be, were they? at least it wasn’t anywhere near as lame as the second season of dexter, and pretty much every season of lost.
