Did you stop by Chris Sims’ blog last week for the big hoo-hah celebrating the first anniversary of his ISB domain?
As you might expect, a face-kickin’ good time was had by all. The Internet’s resident Ambassador of Awesomeness used the opportunity to relive (one more time) the seminal events of Batman #425: the world-famous “car battery” issue.
Surprisingly, given the number of Batman comics we own, that particular issue never left an impression on our consciousness until it became such a cause celebre.
Given this disconcerting revelation - the Keeper never finds himself aligned with the cool kids - we set about collecting our own list of Batman beat-downs that strongly contributed to your humble host’s long-time devotion to the character.
Since it beats … you know … actually doing something productive, the Keeper found several examples of why the Dark Knight is such a kick-@$$ creation - enough material for a theme week!
So, without further ado, here’s the first entry in our list of the Caped Crusader’s “greatest hits.” It’s taken from Detective Comics #613, courtesy of two of our favorite Bat-creators - Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle.
The key to this sequence, of course, is that Batman can hit someone so hard and so quickly that it takes a few seconds for your average jabroni to even realize he’s been battered senseless.
Why do petty criminals even think it’s a good idea to set up shop in Gotham City anyway?
