Kick-Ass Kara!
June 16, 2007 by The Fortress Keeper
The Keeper purchased Justice #12 this week and - despite low expectations stemming from the absurd JL-Armor twist - found it quite inspiring.
We could launch into a soliloquy of how Alex Ross’ fan-fic tapped the essence of DC’s heroes - hope, rather than angst - or admit that our heart grew a few sizes larger when the Legion of Super-Heroes made a brief appearance.
But you know what we really liked?
Bad-Ass Supergirl!
You show ‘em Kara!

My only regret with that sequence is that she did not uncork her extra-disdainful can o’ Supergirl whoopass on that useless thug the Parasite.
That scene made me feel really-really good…god forbid today’s Supergirl should actually take down a real live Supervillain???!!!?? Where’s the sales in that???
Lord that scene in Justice #12 was nice, short but nice, I’d pay very good money for an Alex Ross illustrated “All Star Supergirl” maxi-series.
I, like you, was pretty turned off by the “Power Ranger Justice League” armor (Ross obviously has some fondness for that crap), but I thought the final issue rallied nicely, especially that surprise cameo by the classic Legion.
Maybe you can tell me: What the hell was up with the “Vampire Joker”? Was that another one of Ross’s “I think it’s cool, so I’ll stick it in there” elements…much like the completely out-of-the-blue Plastic Man/Elongated Man tussle a few months back?
That pretty much came out of nowhere, huh?
Since I don’t personally recall any “Vampire Joker” stories from the Bronze Age - which provided a frame of reference for most of the series - I’m guessing it’s one of Ross’ fanboy kewl moments.
Almost took me out of the story, though.
