Kara Goes Hollywood

Helen Slater

Zap2it reports that Kara Zor-El will land in Smallville next season!

According to the site …

As the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother, Kara also has superpowers, including one that Clark has yet to develop: the ability to fly. On the more mundane side, Kara butts heads with Clark, is sweet on Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) and draws Lex’s (Michael Rosenbaum) attention.

Looks like TV Kara will be a bit of a rebel, which is jake with the Keeper as long as the character remains heroic. An actress has yet to be cast, so here’s hoping the eventual choice will be as charismatic and charming as the original Supergirl, Helen Slater.

We also hope the Supergirl episodes will be cool, like the Justice League story was last year, and not … um … as bad as the rest of the season.

I have always maintained that the Helen Slater Supergirl movie was the most faithful transference of the _spirit_ of a comic book to the screen, at least until the first Spider-man.

I mention this only because I have never seen a single episode of Smallville and so cannot respond to the actual topic of this post. But it looks like Helen has been doing TV work lately, so maybe she can have a cameo on the show as an aunt or something.

Mmmmmm… Helen Slater. I still have a crush on her.

Considering Kara’s comic book antics over the last couple of years, maybe Paris Hilton would be the ideal choice. I mean, it’s not like she’s busy or anything.

As for Helen Slater, she was perfect for the role. The movie stunk, but she was one of its few bright spots.
I still vividly remember that scene in her college dorm room when she first sees a poster of her cousin Superman. The awe on her face, coupled with a faint note progression of the Superman theme, was beautiful.

Maybe fans should start sending all those Mars Bars to Gough and Millar?

Ahhh…Helen Slater, another sweet remember of all the might-have-beens that surround the Legend of Supergirl.
I’ve often thought, that if the Salkinds had decided to do a syndicated Supergirl series instead of a Superboy series, the Girl of Steel might’ve made out better as a pop icon.
    Who is to say?

I don’t know that the Salkinds could have pulled off a Supergirl series, given how very bad the Superboy one was — I recently watched an episode via AOL’s TV streaming site, and was struck by 1) how committed the show was to making sure Stacy Haiduk never appeared in anything that could be considered a complete top, and 2) how utterly hokey everything was — nary a glimmer of wit to be found anywhere.
