Iron Trumps Adamantium

iron fist vs. wolverine

Of course, your kung-fu krazed Keeper loved Immortal Iron Fist.

But rather than expound at length over Danny Rand’s latest (and hopefully greatest) adventure, let us instead turn our attention toward those heady days of the Bronze Age when the K’un-Lun Kid was under the care of Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

(We have to leave something for later, right? Posting ideas don’t come cheap, you know … )

So let’s journey back to Iron Fist #15, when a simple misunderstanding forced Danny to battle the Uncanny X-Men and - hmmm, how else can we put this - KICKED THEIR FRIGGIN BUTTS!

Of course, everything gets sorted out and our heroes learn a valuable lesson …

The Week That Was

The punisher

Well, the Keeper didn’t do a very good job of cutting back on comics purchases last week. But hey, Thanksgiving is a time for stuffing oneself full of goodies.

So, let’s move along without any further ado. Be wary, for spoilers lurk ahead!

Dave Cockrum, R.I.P.

Remembering Dave Cockrum

Dave Cockrum has passed away due to complications resulting from diabetes. He was 63.

The Keeper grew up reading Cockrum’s Legion of Super-Heroes and X-Men and eagerly bought the creator’s Futurians graphic novel when it was published in 1983.

Superboy & The Legion Of Super-Heroes #109We first encountered Cockrum’s work - and the Legion itself - in Superboy & The Legion Of Super-Heroes #199.

The story was typical Bronze Age DC, as the Legion was targeted by a senitent gun that sought the group’s destruction. It wasn’t much of a threat, since the heroes only needed about four or five pages to emerge victorious.

However, the youthful Keeper could not get over how cool the Legion looked. Their outfits were wild and funky, and the members actually seemed like young adults instead of stodgy grown-ups like the Justice League.

Trouble for the Legion

Cockrum’s work epitomized the four-color joy of super-heroes at their best. He will truly be missed.

Our condolences to his friends and family.
