Q: So how does one compose a “week in review” post when one doesn’t have anything particularly interesting to say?
A: Buy a Rob Liefeld comic.
Yes, true to his word, the Keeper purchased the Suprema/Supreme Sacrifice flip-book for a measly $3.99. And what did your friendly host get for his trouble?
Three or four pages of the Lass of Laurels flying around, meeting extra-dimensional counterparts and gaping in wonder.
On the flip-side, the genius of Robert Kirkman (stick to Invincible, buddy …) brings us Supreme battling a grotesque zombie-blob - a confrontation that ends with our hero knee-deep in blood.
Oh yes, both stories promise greater things to come in a crossover “event” that will probably never see the light of day.
Aside from paying an inflated price for two barely glorified teasers, the entire effort left your muddled Man in the Fortress with a sour taste. It’s as if Liefeld was hell-bent on erasing every trace of Alan Moore’s handiwork from the characters.
If the creator of X-Force wants to destroy the only decent comic that ever bore his name, he is indeed within his rights to do so. But at least give those who enjoyed the Moore series the dignity of a complete, coherent story.
Suprema/Supreme Sacrifice is nothing more than a colossal rip-off, purchased by at least one reader who should have known better.
Oh well, at least the Keeper found a few good uses for this book. For one, we now have a strong candidate for worst comic of the year.
(Although its still better than Youngblood #1!)
Secondly, we helped preserve the environment by throwing this piece of trash in the recycling bin.
Third, our extreme disgust over losing $3.99 at least broke the strong case of writer’s block your friendly Keeper suffered while attempting to review last week’s comics.
So here, without further ado, are the rest of our mid-September purchases.
