Stop, In The Name Of Hal
Dear Danny,
It’s time to talk.
You’re perhaps the deadliest martial artist in the Marvel universe, able to master any fighting style and weapon known to mankind. You have near-complete control of your nervous system, rendering you immune to pain.
You wield the fabled iron fist, a weapon powerful enough to defeat nearly any enemy. (Although, granted, it wasn’t much help against a rampaging Hulk…but hey, he’s stomped on every Marvel character at one time or another.)
On those rare occasions you do suffer injuries, there’s always that healing factor to consider. Heck, you even cured yourself of cancer.
You’re a badass Danny, even with the yellow slippers.
So why have you spent so many years in Luke Cage’s shadow?
Yeah yeah, Luke is a bad mutha. Brian Bendis made that abundantly clear in “Alias,” “The Pulse,” “New Avengers,” “Secret Wars,” the “House of M,” and even “Mary Jane Loves Spider-Man” for all we know.
But we’ve read those early “Hero for Hire” and “Power Man” comics and guess what? They’re not that great!! Both the Black Panther and The Falcon were featured in better stories at the time. Even Brother Voodoo was more interesting, to be honest
Show a little pride in yourself, Danny. Stop whispering to readers like an awed fanboy about the awesome power of Luke Cage. You’re no slouch yourself. Sure you’ve been replaced by a H’ylthri doppelganger, presumed dead, mentally dominated by the Black Dragon and lost control of the iron fist for a time. Hey, this is Marvel! Who hasn’t had a bad day or two?
It’s time to get up, grab Joe Quesada or whoever else by the neck and demand another mini-series or guest shot - this time with a decent writer or artist. Get that long-rumored movie deal pushed through development.
Kick some butt. You can do it … even with those yellow slippers.
